Materials with fire protection class B1 and B2

Ideal for demanding applications with fire protection requirements

We offer a wide range of display board as well as paper and honeycomb panels for various applications where fire protection classes B1 or B2 are required: signs, advertising stands, point-of-sale/point-of-purchase displays, decorations, as well as shop and trade show constructions.

Our sustainable KROMA® Displayboard is certified in thicknesses of 3–5 mm. This display board is distinguished by excellent printing, cutting, and punching properties. The particularly smooth top layers, the bright core, the very good flatness, and the high stability with low weight qualify KROMA® Displayboard as an ideal panel material for signs, displays, and packaging.

In addition to our own materials, we also offer extremely stable honeycomb panels, paper boards, and aluminum composite panels from other manufacturers that are also certified B1 and B2. This wide selection meets necessary fire protection regulations and enables the implementation of many applications for a variety of purposes.

Unsure which quality is right for your application? Our Sample Box Cardboard/Paperboard and our Sample Box Honeycomb Boards help with the selection and allow you to handle the qualities in a practical DIN A4 format.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fire Protection-Certified Materials

Fire protection classes categorize materials and building products according to their performance in fires. These classifications establish the suitability of materials for specific uses in terms of fire safety. In Europe, fire protection classes are mainly governed by the EU standard EN 13501-1, and in Germany, by the DIN 4102.

Typically, manufacturers aiming for a B1 or B2 certification must subject their products to an extensive testing procedure. This involves checking the material properties in terms of their fire behavior, flammability, and ability to prevent the spread of fire.

The exact requirements and testing procedures can vary by country and applicable standards. Generally, however, manufacturers must provide evidence that their products meet the defined standards and fulfill the criteria for classification as either non-combustible or normally combustible.

After the successful completion of the tests and submission of the required documents, certification is issued for the respective materials or construction products. This certification confirms that the materials are considered non-combustible or normally combustible and comply with the prevailing fire protection standards.

B1 stands for 'non-combustible'. Materials of fire protection class B1 are more difficult to ignite than those of class B2. They have a higher resistance to fire and spread more slowly. These materials are designed to withstand flames for a certain period of time and delay the spread of fire and smoke. This reduces the risk of rapid fire spread and allows more time for evacuation.

B1 materials are often used in areas where higher safety requirements are set, such as in public buildings, schools, offices, and other places with high foot traffic. These materials are suitable for indoor use where increased fire protection requirements are imposed, and can help to enhance the safety standards of a building.

B2 stands for 'normally flammable'. Materials of fire protection class B2 are capable of resisting fire, but not to a high degree. They do burn, but the flame spread is limited and controlled. These materials are not immediately flammable, but can catch fire with some exposure to flames or heat.

B2 materials are commonly used in areas where normal flammability is tolerated, such as in the interiors of buildings. They are suitable for applications where fire protection is not the highest priority, but a certain level of safety is still required.
